Barb Duggan started her company Connective Health Massage Therapy to help individuals suffering from pain and dysfunction due to overuse, injury, or surgical recovery. Specializing in NeuroMuscular Therapy and other therapeutic massage modalities, such as Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Hot and Cold Stone Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, and Lymphatic Drainage Massage.
The chronic pain and dysfunction that many of our clients experience is not unbeknown to Barb. In 2015, she was at her wits end following a car accident. She found herself consistently in pain and struggling to get through her daily routine, despite months of physician care and physical therapy. Unsure of where to turn to next in her Columbia community, she began researching classes online and came across a class on Neuromuscular Therapy. Unlike the conventional care she had been receiving, she was surprised to find that within one session she was feeling more functional than she had in over a year.
From that point on she decided to learn as much about pain as she could, the different ways to help alleviate it, and how to ensure people were learning about this therapeutic option when other therapies weren’t working. While she recognized that massage therapy may not always be the right fit for everyone, it has been proven to be highly beneficial for many people that have otherwise sought out other therapies and medical treatments and have found themselves back at square-one. Little did she know that within a year she would be helping her first massage therapy client and within another year-and-a-half be hiring a second LMT to help others suffering from pain and dysfunction.
Fast-forward to today, where CHMT has grown to a highly sought out clinical massage therapy practice with five LMTS (and counting!) and a growing list of dedicated clients located in Columbia, across Missouri, and even Illinois, New York, and other states. What started out as one woman’s search for reduced pain and improved wellness, has quickly become a successful small business in Columbia, MO that prides itself on working with other local health and wellness specialists to deliver the best possible care.
